A water chiller is a refrigeration device that supplies cold water to cool down industrial equipment. It is an elaborate system made up of parts such as pumps, pipes, condenser, refrigerant, coolant expansion reservoir, etc. The water chiller cools down water to about 20°C (68°F) and then pumps it to the industrial process equipment.
Industrial water chillers can circulate up to 400 tons of chilled water. A basic unit costs about US$ 2,500 and the prices rise from there. As the apparatus is bulky, water chillers are most often installed on roof tops or on the side of industrial buildings and operated from inside.

Water chillers are a cost-effective investment for fast growing industrial facilities. Water chillers are a superior substitute to evaporative cooling towers because, in the former, the water is circulated inside a closed circuit while in the latter, coolant water contacts air in the tower.
How to Select
To select an appropriate water chiller, you first need to determine how much chilling is exactly needed. This will help to calculate the energy required to be added to the coolant. This calculation will help you select the most efficient water chiller.
Since the coolant is cycled in a closed circuit, this device saves water by not continuously pumping it in. Precision manufacturing equipments require adequate cooling because even slight overheating can lead to damage resulting in severe losses. Specialised water chillers can chill down non-water coolants to very low temperatures. Common industrial equipment that need cooling include lasers, STM microscopes, welding and cutting machines, X-ray machines, printing and packing machines, vacuum pumps, ozone generators, plastic applications and others.
